Climate
Located in Central America between 8 and 12 degrees north of the equator, Costa Rica has a tropical climate year round with only two seasons, which are defined by how much rain falls during a particular period–locally known as the dry season and the rainy season. The dry season, also known as summer, goes from December to April, and the rainy season, also known as winter, goes from May to November. The rainy season coincides with the Atlantic hurricane season and during this time the country gets constant rain in many regions.
The biggest waves are during the wet season and average 4 to 10 feet, while during the dry season waves average around 3 to 8 feet. The water temperature averages around 76 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit for incredible surf year round. Outside temperatures range from around 80 to 90 degrees during the day, dipping down to around 75 degrees at night.
Wildlife
Although very small, covering only 0.1 % of the world’s land mass, Costa Rica contains 5-7 % of the worlds biodiversity and is home to an assortment of plants and animals. Around 25% of the countries land is protected by national parks and other protected areas with the help of the Costa Rican government, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the National System of Protected Areas (SINAC).
Costa Rica is home to a an enormous variety of interesting and colorful wildlife. The country is a center for biological diversity, having an abundance of fruit trees, rare reptiles & amphibians, and over 840 species of identified birds.
